Abstract

Introduction. The efficiency of biogas production systems depends on internal factors (temperature, pH level, C/N ratio, organic loading rate – OLR, hydraulic retention time – HRT, and inhibitory substances) as well as external factors (climatic conditions, availability of feedstock, economic barriers, and lack of technical expertise).

Materials and Methods. The aim of this study is to systematically analyze the internal and external factors affecting biogas production efficiency and to identify optimization opportunities under the conditions of Uzbekistan.

Results. Based on literature analysis, optimal parameters were identified (mesophilic temperature range of 35–40°C, pH 6.8–7.2, C/N ratio of 20–30:1), along with the consequences of deviations (a decrease in methane yield by 30–80%). In Uzbekistan, key limiting factors include cold periods (psychrophilic conditions), challenges in waste transportation, and insufficient subsidies.

Conclusion. The study proposes technical solutions such as solar-assisted heating, co-digestion, microaerobic conditions, and small-scale bioreactors, as well as policy measures including subsidies, educational programs, and expansion of pilot projects. Implementation of these measures can significantly enhance the development of biogas technologies in Uzbekistan, promote agricultural waste recycling, and reduce carbon emissions.
