Abstract
This article comprehensively examines and studies the influence of the atmospheric surface layer on angular measurements conducted around a reservoir. In the hot and dry climate of Uzbekistan, a new method for improving the accuracy of geodetic measurements performed using modern instruments has been developed on a polygonometric network of reservoir shores, based on the results of field experiments. Potential for improving the accuracy of horizontal angle and line length measurements by applying a geographic information system to the developed method has been identified, and recommendations for the best time of day to conduct measurements have been provided based on experimental data. Positive results were achieved in all research studies using geographic information systems (GIS). It is demonstrated that the influence of lateral refraction on horizontal angle and line length measurements during the day, in hot and dry climates, can be determined on the banks of rivers in the Republic of Uzbekistan, at two-hour intervals, and in various climatic conditions.
