Abstract

This article analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations for calculating the weights of goods and services in the consumer basket and develops directions for their improvement. The accuracy and representativeness of the consumer price index primarily depend on how well the weighting system is constructed. The paper examines the role of household budget survey data in the weighting system, the mechanisms for aligning expenditure categories with representative goods, approaches used in developed countries, as well as the role of national accounts and additional data sources. Furthermore, directions for updating and improving the weighting system in the context of Uzbekistan are explored. The research findings indicate that household expenditure surveys serve as the main statistical source for constructing the weighting system; however, under modern conditions, it is necessary to enhance this system by integrating national accounts, administrative and transactional data sources, ensuring classification consistency, and implementing regular updating mechanisms [1; 2; 7; 15].
